Prairie Portraits at Katerina’s

Saxophonist Athanasios Zervas

On Saturday, June 23, 2012 my piece Prairie Portraits in the version for saxophone and piano was premiered at Katerina’s, 1920 W. Irving Park Rd, Chicago, as part of their Summer Art-Music Series. This concert featured visiting artist Athanasios Zervas (pictured) – composer, saxophonist, and assistant professor at the University of Macedonia, Thessaloniki Greece – along with Philip Morehead, piano. A versatile piece, it has now been performed on English horn (Carolyn Hove), clarinet (Christie Miller), cello (Paula Kosower – see below), and now saxophone. The music has been published by Jeanné, Inc. Other composers represented on this exciting program of modern music included Frank Abbinanti, Aris Carastathis, Dinos Constantinides, George Flynn, Ilya Levinson, Robert Lombardo, Spyros Panaousis, Shulamit Ran, Christos Samaras, Stephen Syverud, Mikis Theodorakis, and Athanasios Zervas.
